After experiencing whiplash from a recent auto accident I purchased this to help ease muscle soreness and occasional pain and tightness. It heats up evenly in the microwave, did not experience any hot or cold spots. Surprisingly it rests nicely against the neck and shoulders and does not slip off easily. I preferred to criss cross the straps over my chest and tie in the back for a more comfortable feeling. It does lose heat quickly, I had to re-heat every 20 minutes to maintain a warm temperature. Also it's not that much of a "moist" feeling, not compared to the hot towels they give you in physical therapy. But it is more soothing (and convenient) than a dry heating pad, allowing you to move about the house freely without being strapped to a wall outlet. Just be sure to stay close to a microwave. It's a cost effective solution for the occasional neck or muscle strain, I recommend it!
