Great for practice

Yes, it's card stock, but the material has been used by great artists for centuries. Keep in mind that the cost (less than $2 each) is three times less than plasterboard. So I think they are worth it. I can paint studies with enthusiasm and not worry about the costs. I spray them onto a hard board with light glue to strengthen them while I work and when I'm done the paper can be easily peeled off the board. When a piece works, I mount it on hardboard to properly preserve and frame it. Also, even though they are pre-painted, I add a coat or two of GOLDEN GAC 100 acrylic resin just for extra protection (against oil penetrating the paper). I also love warm, mid tones. Many artists prepare their canvas with a warm undertone and here you can get it for free! So yes they are inexpensive but work great once you know how to use them. Hope this is helpful.

Pros
  • Resin coating keeps records from warping when wet and improves archival quality
Cons
  • Small things
