The ground wire is pressed into the back of the flange where the switch should fit snugly into the box. The problem is that the ground wire connection (brass rivet and protruding plug) does not allow the bolted flange to be tightened properly in the electrical box, creating a gap or forcing you to pound it into place. Then the support protrudes from the wall. These switches have a traditional ground wire coming out of the switch. This is bad design and I do not recommend anyone to use this switch for this reason. I returned two I bought.
