Review on πŸ“¦ FIDECO 3.5/2.5-Inch Hard Drive Enclosure Case with Fan, USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter for HDD & SSD External Hard Drive - Supports 16TB with UASP by Johnny Black

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Effectively reducing drive temperature - 3.5 " mount is far from perfect - 2.5 " mount is not acceptable

I just got a review so the review is based on first impression. Securing screws on the bottom of the drive. Then insert the stand into the slot of the bracket and plug the drive forward into the SATA connector. It probably fits 90% of all hard drives, but my drive is a Seagate Exos 10TB, which has slightly longer screw holes. The front set next to the plug worked fine, but the back set didn't line up with the keyholes in the holder, so I just installed the front set of spacers. Everything should be fine if I'm careful with the hull. As others have pointed out, there is no clamp or seal between the end of the actuator and the housing, so the actuator could theoretically slide back and loosen. Styrofoam or something similar is used to gently secure/wedge the disc. I cannot recommend this case for use with a 2.5" drive. Yes you can install it and it will work, but there is absolutely no way to mount the drive with the hardware that comes with it. The included mounting screws will not work with a 2.5" drive. The only physical support when installing a 2.5" drive is the SATA connector, which means the drive can easily slide out of the connector. If you want to use a 2.5 inch drive, you need to apply some material to clamp the drive. The manufacturer is deceiving by presenting the product. The other minor downside is that the power supply seems a little anemic, rated at 12V at 2A, but works. The good news is that the fan effectively reduces the drive's operating temperature. I used to use a Seagate Exos (an enterprise-class 7200 rpm hard drive) in a ventilated aluminum case, but without active cooling. The Exos tended to run around 40C/104F when idling and with little use. Once installed in this new case, the same usage runs at around 32Β°C/90Β°F. Room temperature is 26Β°C/79Β°F. All in all, the case is fine if you only want to use it with 3.5-inch drives. I originally gave this case 4 stars but deducted 1 due to the 2.5" hard drive fiasco I just discovered.
