I have bought replacement cables for iPhone and iPad so many times only to throw them away after a few uses. What happened to the cables that lasted forever? like all the extension cords in my garage that I inherited from my parents 30 years ago. The difference is that these tiny cords are always bent and stuffed into tiny tight spots, and it's not the cord itself that breaks. but the contact area, which has sufficient surface coverage to ensure good contact in the early days, but the ears from friction and time and eventually fail. The cables here seem great, and the endpoints that go into my iPhone are nice and new. Time will tell, but at some point they're also expected to fail, which is another reason why new contactless chargers and Bluetooth interfaces will continue to supplant hard physical connections - but that will likely make the semiconductor inside faster fails an inexpensive and easily replaceable $20 physical cable.
