I've experimented with different types of water without boiling, once, twice and with different starting temperatures. Oddly enough, distilled water didn't give the best results. I've had my best results for perfectly clear ice by using filtered water from my LG fridge and double boiling the water. Boil, cool, then boil again and cool to 120-150 degrees. Then freeze and wait 30 hours. The hotter it is, the longer you have to wait. The taste is much better and lasts a long time in my drinks.
