The backlight is not automatic
I used this with a remote probe, set the temperature signal to 140. It seems to work fine, the signal sounded a little more than 140. There is a backlight, but there is an activation, and not automatic. Have used the connected sensor once, switched it on and off as described. There seems to be accurate readings.
