Review on πŸ’‘ Zumy Laptop Video Light: Portable USB Powered Laptop Light with 4 Light Levels for Video Conference Lighting by Mac Sterling

FINALLY a webcam light that works really well! Ambient light in portable case

I've had issues with poor lighting and webcams that don't handle lighting oddities for a long time. I've tried external overhead ring lights (mostly useless as they create hotspots that only cause additional problems) and webcams with built in ring lights (like the Razer Kiyo which is best of all but not very good). , and a bunch of fakes that are just awful). The problem is the light scattering. You don't need direct light for this to work, you need diffused light, which can come from a lightbox. But a lightbox is usually big and heavy and cannot be mounted on a monitor. So far. Zumy solves this problem with a lightweight, accordion-like silicone construction that provides appropriate diffusion of the intense LED light source on top after the accordion has expanded. I've attached examples of how well Zumy enhances images from a decent quality Logitech C925e webcam (similar to high-end Logitech webcams like the C920/C922/C930). The Zumy seems to do an excellent job of illuminating my face without blowing out detail due to non-scattered, overly bright, direct rays. And Zumy provides enough light to get the job done. Installation is trivial: take the Zumy out of the box, attach it to your computer monitor, plug the Zumy's micro-USB power cable into any power source, and turn it on. Zuma with a button at the back. There are four lighting levels. I have found that high values provide more than enough light. As for the flaws, I would say there are two of them. First, the mount is a clip rather than a tilt mount on something like Logitech webcams. This requires a sufficiently flat surface around the edge of the monitor for a satisfactory connection. With modern monitors that have very thin bezels, I've had trouble finding a suitable mount unless the clip is protruding from part of the screen. Second. The Zumy is inserted into the mount through a plastic ball/cup that is not very strong. To get the zumy in position, I managed to get the ball out of the cup twice. It's not difficult to put back in place, but it seems like a flimsy construction and I would imagine it could break over time. Easily folds flat to fit in a laptop bag. Overall, I feel like the Zumy is a game changer in terms of good, portable, diffuse clip-on webcam lighting. highlighted.
