Let me start by saying that I never intended and never intend to put this kettle on direct heat/flame. I've been a barista for years at places ranging from Starbucks, Coffee Beans to a variety of hipster and pop coffee shops. I love strong coffee and I've missed the flower of my coffee. I didn't want to spend a fortune just to prove I'm a real barista and only serve myself. Yes, the body of the kettle gets hot, just like many more expensive pots. I will. This is nature. Just like when a barista steams your milk, this is territory. I use it every day and the color hasn't faded yet, although I wouldn't care if it did. The top gets hot. So I think there might be some plastic in there, but that doesn't really matter to me. It's definitely easier in the sense that the water loses heat and the thing gets hot, but the handle gets the job done. I gave it five stars because it's functional and reminds me of the good old days, so I'm biased. Yes. That's about all you can get out of it. OK Bye
