I've been wearing Shoei helmets for a long time. I only wear Snell Foundation approved helmets as I find them to absorb and disperse hard impacts better than helmets from other manufacturers. In 2009 I was in a very bad motorcycle accident and my open Shoei received two very hard hits on the pavement. I offloaded and hit the road at about 45 mph and my head did a double impact, hitting the helmet hard in two places. When I wasn't wearing my Shoei, my . My head would crack like an egg and my brain would go haywire. I believe I would have been killed or at least sustained a serious head injury. This, of course, would severely hamper my recovery, and I would probably be a veg. I prefer the open face as I feel it gives me a much better view of surrounding traffic and I find it to be much more comfortable than full face helmets. I also feel like it offers a lot more ventilation. Less tight feeling when driving. This new helmet is much lighter than my old Shoei and much more comfortable. I like the removable inner padding so I can take it out and clean it from time to time. I usually wear big ones, but I found the big x just fit me perfectly. I have worn Open Face Shoei for over 30 years and they are a great helmet. They're not cheap, but you can't buy a fifty-dollar brain at Walmart, so why buy a fifty-dollar helmet? Your head is banging on the freeway, it's best to have Shoei between your brain and concrete, or learn how carrots work. Been there twice.
