I have a Canon flash for my Canon G11 camera but now I mostly use the Sony A55. When my service club asked me to take some member portraits I knew I would need a new flash for Sony and I settled on this Sigma model. So far it has worked very well for me. I use it as a bounce flash that's aimed up and to the side, reflecting off the white wall and ceiling and producing a nice, well-diffused, directional light. It took me a while to master this technique before realizing that I had to flip open the built-in diffuser to properly distribute the light on reflective surfaces. The built-in retractable white card (to bring out highlights) seems a bit flimsy, so I made a few of my own out of a white matte sheet that I secured with Scunci hair ties (thanks to "Cheap Shots" Larry Becker for this tip. Yes, the battery compartment is a bit flimsy, but thanks to other reviewers who have pointed this out, I open and close it carefully and have had no problems.I get good battery life and a fast charge (about five seconds) when using Eneloop NiMH cells .
