Budget Chair - Does the job

Bought this chair for $200 and have had it since Jan 2020. Not bad but if I had the money (I don't have a college student with T-Bust) I would not buy this chair. It's not very convenient, but with a little tweaking, it gets the job done. Plenty of other reviews show the true colors of the build quality - it's not surprising, but if you really just need something a little more comfortable without dropping a few hundred bucks you can get this to work: β€’ I bought cheap pads to soften the armrests to do (photo attached). It's terrible without her. Pillows just aren't enough to prevent hand fatigue. Otherwise, it's almost like putting your hand on the corner of a piece of wood. Not very comfortable. β€’ I bought a small memory foam pillow to put under my seat cushion. Again, the pillow is not thick enough. β€’ I put the supplied cushion behind the back cushion. With this setup, to support the middle wooden pole that holds the pillow, I took a small piece of tape that was lying around and tied it to the end poles (photo attached). It distributes pressure accurately and prevents the center bar from squeaking or breaking. Otherwise you will slump and after a while you will feel pain without back support. β€’ Finally, at least on my chair, the zigzag springs are not placed well. They seem solid and well anchored, but poorly placed and spaced apart. After a while it starts to hurt again (very badly) and you sit unevenly. To solve this problem, I took a small ribbon I had back and carefully tied it around the frame of the chair and around the next zigzag spring (photo attached). Surprisingly, this works very well. When you sit down, the band forces the spring to swing a little more to the side (as does the band supporting you) as it flexes toward you, giving you much better support and reducing fatigue. I've just checked the bolts and screws on this chair to make sure they're tight (the manual actually recommends checking them regularly - another sign of not-so-amazing build quality). They probably needed to be tightened, but this is of major importance. Make sure all screws and bolts are tight before using. In summary, if you can afford something more expensive, you can do better than this chair. But if you're willing to tighten the screws and most likely make some pretty necessary changes like I did, it should eventually work and get the job done. Hope that helps!
