the bolts had cross threads
when i pulled the handbrake back for the first time the top mounting bolt was snapped off, i'm not sure if it had cross threads or not but when i replaced the master cylinder the bottom mounting bolt was cross threaded carving . The 2 smaller bolts on the side were also jacked up and could not be replaced with a spare bolt.
