beware! The back used for this earring cannot be 14k gold. Both of my children wore 14k gold earrings with no problem. After wearing them for weeks, they both had a terrible reaction to the earrings. The holes that the earring's shank goes through are fine, but the back and sides where the back of the earring meets are blackened and swollen. I believe the bar is probably 14k gold, but the backing they used could be a different metal. Our doctor said it looked like a nickel reaction localized to the back of the ears, which agrees with my guess.
