Twist, then twist and lift!
It would be nice if there were instructions on how to remove the top. I used to have ashtrays with cup holders and they just fell off. This had to be turned without my knowledge and then lifted. I had two people check the entire package for instructions and found that it looked like my last one and tried to take the top off by breaking two small tabs that were supposed to turn into slots so now I have to try gluing it on. I'm glad the other one I got for my wife is still in good condition. Otherwise this is a good product.
