When I first got this system I had some problems which were eventually resolved. The main problem was that you had no sound when playing a DVD when using an HDMI cable. At first and since I had this system for several years up until yesterday (at the time of writing this article) I thought it was a Microsoft issue. It turned out to be my TV. I just found out yesterday that my TV needs a firmware update to fix DVD playback with no audio issues. I wish I had known about this before I threw the Xbox in the trash in such a large quantity after venting my anger on it thinking it was an Xbox issue. Right. After spending several hours restoring it, gluing it back together and attaching the DVD case, bending some of the internal metal parts, and gluing plastic parts that had come loose after the impact, I was actually able to stumble upon information about the Flash find my TV to fix cable issues. HDMI with game consoles. I was trying to solve another problem with my TV. So here is the solution for the DVD. Just go to your TV manufacturer's website, find your model, then download the firmware onto a USB flash drive. Then turn off the TV and insert the flash drive into the USB service port on the TV. Turn on the TV and select "Yes" when asked if you want to install the firmware. Then when prompted to reset, choose Yes. After flashing is complete, turn off the TV, remove the USB flash drive and disconnect the TV from the network for 10 seconds. Then plug it back in, turn it on and rescan the channels (if necessary). You should now be able to disconnect the composite (red, white, yellow) cable and use the HDMI cable if you're playing DVDs and getting sound, no problem. By the way, even though my Xbox is a little bruised on the outside, the damn thing turns out to be a real soldier. It still works! Even the hard drive still works! I had some problems accessing the network at the beginning and they still occur from time to time, but in general everything works. Be sure to get updates. They really help. I hope that the above technical advice will help others. The games included (one downloadable, one on disc) are very cool games.
