They are pretty well made for the price. The front closure has a nylon webbing buckle and the wool material is lightweight but dense. Inside there is a shoulder pad to avoid rubbing. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that I just received it and haven't tried it yet. NO overkill. Since I wanted to use it as a layer under the arrow blade, it works great for my purposes. However, if you intend to use it alone, note that you'll need to add some sort of clasp to keep it in place.
