I was looking for embroidery supplies for my daughter when I stumbled across this item. Although I had never sewn a single stitch before, the pattern was so beautiful and the design so feminine (and I still didn't have my stepdaughter's graduation gift) that I bought it on the spur of the moment. My eight year old daughter was introduced to embroidery by the stepdaughter mentioned above, so I thought to myself how difficult that can be. Definitely not without problems. For this project, while stamped and easy to make, I had to learn five stitches: outline, purl lazy daisies, colonial knot (I used French knots instead), and straight stitch (this one is so intuitive you don't have to). It appeals to the restless perfectionist in me because it's calming and demands precision. ;) A few things I noticed: One of the pillowcase designs is a mirror image (not exact alignment) of the other. This means you need to keep in mind which leaf or flower you are embroidering when referring to stitch guidance. For example, in a mirrored pillowcase design, some stitches for the top of the sheet are shown at the bottom of the pattern. One of the pillowcases had the blue ink applied to the fabric much lighter than the other pillowcase. This made it a little harder to follow the stitch line, but not overly so. I once tried to cut a corner when I didn't have exactly the right color of DMC thread and used my daughter's cheap thread of a similar color. along the edges of the flowers. It was subtle, but it distorted the color scheme and the filament didn't behave as well as DMC filament, so be sure to use real DMC filament in the color listed in the manual for best results. seven different colors of DMC yarn that cost less than $10 at my local Michael store (I live in northern New Mexico). With my learning curve this was my very first embroidery project, I watched YouTube videos (Mary Corbet was the best for me) and following the instructions it took me five weeks to make both pillowcases, the first one took me around 25-28 hours (along with watching videos on YouTube) and secondly, in my opinion, the stitches were nicer, denser and cleaner, it took maybe 55-65% of the time. Overall I had fun doing this for my very first embroidery project and would definitely recommend it to others, both beginners and veterans alike.
