Thing works. I bought it for my 100+ year old father who is in a nursing home. Even he could hear that call and when he wasn't in the room it was so loud and annoying that a member of staff came over to pick up and let me know what was going on. He could hear it ringing; he could hear me talking. It worked wonderfully. I would suggest considering two things: Dad had Parkinson's and a terrible tremor. He could hardly hold this receiver. It needs an easy-to-hold receiver. It's better than some, but not great. He also reviewed 3 of these phones, not cheap but worth the money. During his shaky attempts to answer/hang up the call, the phone fell to the ground and eventually broke. Finally, I attached strong Velcro to his bedside table and phone. Puff. The phone never fell on the floor again.
