I don't think you should think of this as a lockable safe. If you think of it more as a simple organizer/key storage box, it's pretty good. The security aspect is severely lacking, but that's pretty much par for the course for padlock boxes in this price range. I didn't expect it to be great and it isn't. The lock is a cheap waffle lock that is very easy to pick. The key I received actually has a pretty decent cap, making it a little harder to pick than other cheap waffle locks (although that says more about the quality of waffle locks in general, not the security of this lock). Opening a single pin (wafer?) is trivial, and even a novice can open it in a minute or less. The lock is just a cam lock. So if you really want to, you can swap out the core for something more secure like a Medeco or something similar. However, with a standard lock, I would recommend that most people just leave the key in the lock and use it as a handle. That way you won't think it offers any semblance of security and you'll never lose the key. Aside from the bad lock core, the rest of the key case is relatively good. The body is made of medium gauge stamped sheet metal. It's not thick enough to withstand physical attacks to try and open it, but it's thick enough to withstand regular daily use (getting back on the point that this is a storage box/organizer, no security solution). I like the swinging "page" that actually doubles the number of key storage slots available. I have a key storage box from another reputable manufacturer that this 'site' doesn't have and filled it quickly. assuming it's not that great - I'd go with more reliable hardware).
