I've heard TENS on speakers at all price points (thanks to Revain's liberal return policy) and this is my pick for near-field listening. But no speaker is right for all situations, so let me explain. I have the speaker 2 feet from my ears on a side table. It doesn't move, although the handle on the top is actually very handy for moving it around so it's pointing straight at you. (It's a very directional speaker) The detail and clarity of the Addon C5 is amazing - the best of any speaker I've tried including some really good names like Vanatoo, Kanto, KEF Q150, Infinity, Sony, Sonos, Denon 350 , Beolit17 and more. Mid-range and high-range detail is just plain more accurate - again, at close range, that's where I'm evaluating it. I can't talk about the sound that fills the room. To compare apples to apples, I removed the grilles from everything I could except the Sonos5 and the Beolit7 because they weren't removable. As a single unit, for physical reasons, this speaker cannot achieve the separation that can be achieved by a pair of bookshelves. , so I didn't consider this attribute because I don't see much use in it for nearfield listening. The C5 doesn't have the bass heft of a bookshelf pair of 6-inch woofers, however, but it gets interesting. : The Addon C5 has a subwoofer output, which I find cheating, but if it's easy to hook up a subwoofer that I happen to have laying around and disappears behind the sofa, why not use that feature and compare the overall sound? ? With a subwoofer connected, the combo outperforms any of the speakers I've tried without difficulty (considering it's the subwoofer that delivers bass below 50Hz). When you listen to poorly recorded old songs, you can't hear the lowest frequencies anyway. I should mention that the Wi-Fi connection is a little stubborn at times, sometimes forcing me to go into my phone's Wi-Fi settings to connect. However, the wireless connection delivers noticeably better sound quality, so I usually bother to set it up. The Bluetooth connection is flawless - the speaker is always ready to use and as soon as I start Spotify, my phone finds the C5 automatically every time. So I keep it!
