In general, a great cage for an adult Syrian hamster! Probably even more fantastic for dwarf hamsters, gerbils and mice. This cage was the best option. Looking at the Ferplast website I see many others that I would like to have for sale in the US. The general habitat needed some additions and adjustments, but any habitation of any kind needs this. The combination of 2 Ferplast cells offers a surface of 532.5 m². inches, which exceeds the minimum space requirements for hamsters. My hamster often runs back and forth between them, sometimes shifting food from one bowl to the other (even when both are full lol) so she seems happy. The hamster came to stay with me while I was being treated for the infection. She was such a good addition to the household that I decided to adopt her. Advantages: Medium plastic step: Constantly walking on the wire is bad for the hamster's paws. You can get ulcers from it. When I found out about this, I started looking for spacious cages without wires. This cage is perfect in every way. While this doesn't count towards the overall size of the cage, I still think it improves her habitat and doesn't harm her. Top of the Wire: My hamster climbs and it suits her needs (sometimes climbing isn't bad). I like walking on wires all the time). I don't see her trying to get to the lower level, but she used to try a lot to get into the glass aquarium. HIGH WALL CLEAR PLASTIC BOTTOM LAYER I can see my hamster walking all over the cage and also helps keep the litter inside. - Overall size: 340 square inches is not enough for a Syrian hamster, but it takes up a lot of space and gives her plenty of room to move. those that say 460 square inches of floor space. The hose connection was a key selling point as I knew I would have to add another cage for more space. This factor sets this cage apart from other similar style and size cages that I had considered. Cleaning: very easy to disassemble and clean. I can also cap the pipe connection with the caps provided and clean one cage while my hamster is in another. Or do 2 at a time and have them run around the house in their ball. Tube Size: I've tried a Kaytee crittertrail cage before and found my hamster had trouble squeezing through the tubes (which were 1.3 inches) (it also broke 2 different cage brackets and came loose twice). The Ferplast hoses are 2" in diameter and she passes through them easily, even with stuffed cheeks. House: She likes it. As you can see from the photos, she has another accommodation option that is more spacious, but every night she prefers the Ferplast house. I had to attach 2 rubber bands to it to hold it together because my hamster has a knack for ripping off the top. This was a simple fix and easier to clean than glue. Cage Door: Didn't like it at first but found I could slide everything in and out with no problem. I can also easily pick up my hamster anywhere in the cage. The lock works well too. The opening mechanism leads me to believe that a large hamster cannot escape. Well, looks can be deceiving, but it actually works pretty well. - Safety: I've found that hamsters are a lot stronger than they look. As mentioned, my Syrian broke 2 attachments and escaped the Kaytee Crittertrail cage twice. Since this Ferplast cage and the Ferplast Laura cage (pink bottom, available from Revain) don't have any attachments, they were the perfect choice. Thanks to the larger connecting hoses, my hamster has no trouble getting through, so I'm pretty sure that's not the way to go. As with the door, the latch works well. I need 2 fingers to open it so I don't understand how my hamster can open a closed door. With previous Ferplast/Crittertrail settings she had 2 shoots in 8 days. It's been 8 days with the Ferplast/Ferplast setup and no recordings. 😊Cons: - Water bottle: Too small. Too risky if I'm not home every day what happens. This is not an argument for the cell from my point of view, so there is no need to build it in or enlarge it. What I can say is that I like the design of the water bottle as it doesn't have a spring in the tube which I believe will stop the flow of water (Kaytee cages come with a spring in the tube. On a standard sized Kaytee bottle, you can push the ball all the way up the tube which forces the nib to stay in the bottle and solves this problem.I've found that Walmart has an old school nibless design that is guaranteed to work and you don't kills pet from dehydration for about half the price, as well as the Choco Nose H128 due to its springless design) - Impeller: too small for my Syrian hamster. You must buy Exotic Nutrition Silent Runner (worth the money). Also, the balance bike space is too small for a decent sized balance bike for an adult Syrian. Ferplast's Laura cage (pink below, available from Revain) fits the 9" wheel perfectly.
