I usually make my own CAT 5 cable and it worked fine but for cables longer than 10 feet I could cannot constantly achieve the 1 GB transfer rate. Comcast recently downgraded our service to a "free" download speed of 150MB, so I wasn't happy when I was only able to increase the download speed to 96MB. After changing my CAT 5 cables a few times, I realized that with anything over 10 feet, I can't make my own patch cord to achieve download speeds of 100+ MB. So I bought this 25ft CAT 6 cable and I'm glad I can now achieve download speeds of 1GB. This cable feels premium, it's soft, thin, flat and the RJ45 Cat 6 connectors feel like well-made components. As soon as I plug this cable into my ethernet port on my computer, my router immediately tells me that I now have a 1GB connection, I'm getting download speeds in excess of 175MB, which is more than the 150MB that Comcast promised me. Of course, to achieve this speed you need the right modem and router.
