Does the old Microplane grater solve the problem and is the grater just as good

Definitely an improvement over the previous version The quality of your cooked food knows Microplane makes better cheese graters. I have a couple of flat, rectangular microplane graters that I probably use more than the cell grater, but for dishes with a large pile of cheese the cell grater is just right, so it has many uses. TWO old versions are already several years old. About halfway through the life of one of them, the blade popped out. At that point, this new version hadn't come out yet, so I ordered a second old version. Then, after a while, the same thing happened - the blade popped out. Luckily it was a different blade so between the two I could still use whatever blade I needed. When the second blade finally popped out of one of them (and worse, there was a very sharp and dangerous metal/plastic line at the tip where it broke) I realized that Microplane had come out with this new version. This new version seems to clearly address all of the above issues. He's just hard as stone. Let's see what happens in a year or two, but it looks like the same problem probably won't happen. As for the detachable base - at first I thought it might be a gimmick, but it's actually useful. Instead of spilling the cheese over the counter (or needing a plate to catch it), just leave the plastic base in place. It's a very hard plastic base so it doesn't feel cheap. It's also enough to just give it up and just forget about it, and I have a regular grater, which is what I did at first (I thought it was a trick until one day I realized it would be handy and I used it). most of the time since). I will say that if your fingers are greasy from cooking you won't be able to grasp the detachable plastic base, which is frustrating. But definitely a small problem. In addition, the old version was easy to grab when not in use, with two long legs protruding downwards, as well as a handle. I actually used the old one's legs as a handle when it was clean and unused as that made it easier to lift. Also, I hung this thing on a hanging hook by its real handle so I couldn't use the real handle to lift it. It lacks "knob shaped legs" (presumably to make room for the detachable plastic base). And the handle at the tip of this type is small, and it is inconvenient to put your hand in it. For all these reasons, I grab it by the body to lift it and there is very little free space on the body. , so my fingers press against the sharp blades. One day I might cut myself a little doing this. But that's also a minor complaint. People who have a little more patience than me and aren't hanging an item overhead on a hook to store it may be fine by simply using the handle that comes with the kit.
