Nice, cheaper version of the Fluke piercer

I usually use the Harris (now Fluke) D- 814 I'm over 20 years old so my review is based on experience with a higher quality tool. Sometimes I need a second hit or don't have a Harris/Fluke with me, so I decided to try TRENDnet. Along with Harris/Fluke, it's clear that TRENDnet has copied the proven Fluke. design very carefully. Plastic is lighter and feels less dense. The handles/wheels are hollow, not solid. The springs for shock absorber adjustment and blade storage are not as tight as with Harris/Fluke. The tool's body is slightly larger and more rectangular around the edges, so it may not be as comfortable for prolonged use. Despite these differences, which I believe result in a lower price, the tool is reliable and works well. If I didn't have a Harris/Fluke to compare I would love this unit and would probably give it 5 stars. Blades are ideally interchangeable with Fluke blades and tools. The 110 blade has a slightly different profile than the Fluke blades I have, but it still works well. The cutting blade is thicker towards the tip and thinner from there, so it may not last as long. When all is said and done I think it's a great price breaking tool. If I were looking for a simple tool for everyday use in a professional setting, I would gravitate towards Fluke. I don't know if it will last 20+ years like my Harris/Fluke but for less frequent use or if you expect to lose it, borrow it and never get it back etc. I'd say it can't its beat for about 1/3 the price of a fluke. I don't know how to caption the photos, so I'll describe them here: The first photo shows the TRENDnet tool and blades. A 110 blade and a Krone blade at the front are installed. Blade covers are also shown which are nice to look at. Photo of three blades: Fluke 110 blade in the foreground, TRENDnet 110 blade in the middle, and Fluke Eversharp blade (silver) to the rear. two blades Fluke 110 on the left and TRENDnet 110 on the right. They are nose to nose so you can see the difference in the profiles. In the group of photos showing two instruments, TRENDnet is at the top or right and my old Harris (now Fluke) D-814 is yellow/blue. tool below/left.

Pros
  • PRECISION REPLACEMENT AND DOUBLE-EDGE KNIVES: Precision piercer blades are conveniently interchangeable and interchangeable between 110 and Krone standards
Cons
  • Out of fashion
