I bought to replace the dying 72002022 (began to beat my head terribly and become covered with bad sectors), which successfully lived for 4.5 years. I got the model 1CH162 with firmware C47. I copied the image of the old disk onto it, launched it. I was immediately surprised by a loud mechanical sound that made my blood run cold - the dying 72002022 began to make similar sounds. But the system worked stably 24/7. Well, let him make some noise from time to time (the pace is ragged: either once every 5 minutes, then once every 3 hours). You can live. But after 2-3 months of work, the system began to reboot spontaneously. Later I found out that under load, after 2-5 hours, the disk stopped being seen by the system and a reboot took place. Standard windows disk checks did not give anything. After that, I read on the Internet that the ST1000DM003 has a loud head parking sound. Disabled APM via hard drive inspector. I also flashed to the latest possible firmware - C49. Model 1CH162, unfortunately, cannot be flashed further. If you buy this drive, then make sure that you have the model 9YN162 - there are newer firmware for it. I also ran all the tests through SeaTools for windows - seagate's native utility. All tests passed successfully (Alas, this SeaTools does not write details at all). But after all these operations, the mechanical sound has not gone away. The system also rebooted after 2-5 hours of operation. SMART shows that everything is in perfect order. And so, when I already decided to take the disk to the service under warranty, then, having nothing to do, I turned on the Fix All-> Long fix via SeaTools (Why fix something if the tests pass successfully). After that, the mechanical sound stopped, reboots too. The disk works quietly, does not heat up at all, although it is used intensively around the clock. I have been living with him in peace and harmony for a week now. Other unlikely reasons for solving the problem: after the backup (before the Fix all long check), the disk was connected to another SATA port and was not fastened with screws. ate: After 3 weeks the mechanical sound is back. Brought it in under warranty.
