Roving is not like traditional yarn. Consider ripping twisted cotton. Roving can be naturally torn into smaller pieces and usually spun into traditional yarn. If you pull hard on this thread, it will snap. I do not recommend this yarn for beginner knitters. I think it's worth the effort. Just know what to expect before you buy.
