I decided to dress my kilt up for a wedding with an ascot, rather than a tie. This one was comfortable and looked great. For as often as I might wear one, this was a great accessory. The "secret" about an ascot is that they are regarded as "more formal" than a tie, but they are really an excuse to dress up without being strangled and uncomfortable for hours.
