So I wanted compact binoculars to take with me on hikes. I wanted them to be able to focus because I like looking at insects too. They were highly rated on the binocular reviews site which is why I chose them. I would be happy with something that could focus up to, say, 5 feet, but I'd be missing out on a lot! Being able to focus to 1.5ft is insane! It's like having a magnifying glass, but doesn't get close to the subject. We recently visited the Cleveland Zoo and looking at the little animals in the windows was like seeing a whole new world! I really can't stress enough how amazing this is. Suddenly I saw the heads of poison dart frogs filling my entire field of vision, insects like leafcutter ants, we are incredible. It made me feel like I was in the nest itself. I saw so many tiny details in so many different exhibits that I've never seen before, even though I've been there probably half a dozen times. Of course, they work great at long ranges too, but I had so much fun looking at all the fine details around me that I don't use them often for real long-range work, although they do a great job. too much of. There seems to be some distortion or curvature around the edges, but the images are very clear. At least there are no chromatic aberrations, noticeable levels in my opinion. If you're looking for an ultra-flat field or ultra-wide angle then this probably isn't for you, but the views this binocular gave me far more than made up for any small flaws. I also appreciate that it has a real threaded monopod or tripod mount on the bottom if you need steadier images.
