DO NOT BUY the best external components

I am very tech savvy. I got this because I needed to be able to switch between 4 computers to work. From the first moment I used it, it didn't work properly. Apparently the drivers didn't work properly. Basically reason 1, you shouldn't buy this: 1. The company seems to be defunct and the website listed in the booklet is going nowhere. No company and no website means no support. After that I started googling because all the computers I was connected to started freezing and stopped working. Reboots won't fix it. The only solution was to unplug the device, then restart it, then plug it back in. This gave me about 50% success rate. My googling led me to problem number 2:2. This is a USB 2.0 device and appears to have USB 3.0 communication issues. Yes, you read it right. The proposed solution was to buy a 2.0 hub for each computer to fool it. No thank you. Further research led me to a final decision. The device is powered by USB only. This meant it didn't always have enough power to power connected devices. This led me to the 3:3 problem. Not enough power. The forums suggested using a USB plug into an outlet to power the device. I tried it. It didn't fix anything. I ended up returning this item for a refund and bought something else. It may seem like the reviews are good, but I think these folks got lucky or had very low power consumption (non-mechanical keyboard and mouse). It doesn't work for me with my mechanical keyboard, mouse and webcam. If KVM can't work with keyboard and mouse, what's the point?
