Review on Modkat Scratcher Lounge (Small - 26.6L X 7H X 10.6D In.) by Marco Huff

It's my cat's new throne.

The first and most important thing to note is that this is made of cardboard. Maybe it says it in the description and I didn't read all the way through, which is likely, but if you're like me and looking at the images and thinking it's going to be solid wood, like most cat scratchers, you'd be mistaken. But after Leo (my cat) sat on it and claimed it, I realized it worked just as well as a regular cat scratcher. In my opinion, it works better. Because it's prettier, takes up less space, and you can flip it over once one side gets scratched up and start anew.I'm not sure of the longevity of this item, since I've only had mine for a month. But so far, I'd guess with one cat, it'd last 6 months or more.My house has modern furnishings and this isn't the ol' eye sore that it could be. I like that it's lightweight, too, and I can move it around for him. I like to place it near me when I'm working at my desk, so he can play on it and also sit up higher to be next to me (which he likes). One thing to note is that my cat is 9.14lbs and the LARGE isn't really large enough for him to sit on the inside of. I have yet to see him even crawl into it. If your cat likes to hide in small spaces, maybe it will work for them. The only sadness with this purchase is the price. It's a little expensive for it being made of cardboard. But are most cat scratchers expensive? Yes. And would I buy this again? Absolutely yes.(Hopefully this is made of recycled cardboard, which would make the price a little better. If not, that's something the manufacturer should consider.)UPDATE: Leo now plays inside his "throne" as well as on top of it. So he most definitely fits in the Large.

Pros
  • Modkat
Cons
  • May not be suitable for cats who like to scratch with their claws fully extended
