My daughter lives in this bathing suit. I bought a pink and blue unicorn and the size I bought was her normal size so I would say buy the size you normally have. The material is shinier than I expected, which is pretty common these days as I see a few girls in my daughter's gym class also wearing glittery leotards. It held up well to the wash with no special treatment - I wash and dry with regular laundry. I would buy it again in a different pattern.
