The picture says more than 1000 words, see attached picture. This happened about 2 months after the filter in the air conditioner lay next to a freshly cut piece to be replaced. They usually last a lot longer but I live on a main road and passing cars kick up a lot of dirt which contributes to the filter becoming so dark and in need of quick replacement. It also does a good job of filtering occasional smoke (from cooking or otherwise). These things certainly do a good job of filtering the air that flows through window air conditioners. I cut it and taped it to the plastic filter inside the unit. I don't recommend packing it with the filter covering both sides, I did that first and it severely affects the A/C's ability to circulate air and in the long run can damage the motor / cause it to stall/ hangs. But it also works great with a filter on just one side. We used to only use an air purifier, but I'm sure the air circulating in my apartment is much cleaner NOW. Season. I live in New Jersey and installed AC window units about 2-3 weeks ago when we had over 70 weather for about a week because the heating in our apartment which I can't control was still on which the apartments extremely hot. My wife also suffers from very bad seasonal allergies every spring from mid-April to mid-June, so bad that last year we bought an air purifier to help with allergies. Whilst the purifier may have helped some it did not completely solve our problems and my wife still has severe allergies so this was the next step where I decided to choose the best filtrete over other companies and be branded as an allergen filter, that was a no thinker. I feel like they helped, probably about as much as the air purifier itself. That's not all, my wife still has allergies that bother her but they seem to be less common and less severe when they occur. This of course depends on the operation of the air conditioner, so the filter is used when the air conditioner is not working and there is no air going through the filter. Allergies and other air pollutants if you have a window air conditioner. Also, I thought 1 pack would only be enough for 1 filter, but in fact I was able to cut out a pack and cover both of the pre-made plastic window filters with these filters and I have a little left over which should be enough. to close the smaller of the two filters again. It's also worth noting that there aren't very good instructions on how to use them. To me it would make the most sense to wrap it around the plastic filter most units have, but since it restricts airflow it can burn out the air conditioning unit. and the instructions give the impression that you should only cover one side. Another suggestion: CLEAN YOUR PLASTIC FILTERS THOROUGHLY BEFORE USE. Use warm, soapy water or another allergen cleaning method to fully clean the filters that came with your devices before installing them on your devices. It's common knowledge that the filters that come with window air conditioners are notoriously bad, and if pollen or other allergenic material gets stuck in them, they'll just keep getting thrown into the air, which is NOT what you want. It is also very important to apply an air conditioner sealant so there are no gaps between your window air conditioner and the window itself for air/allergenic material/insects to enter. This is critical to getting the most overall benefit from these filters. Overall, I highly recommend these air filters for window air conditioners. Like I said, in my opinion (no scientific evidence) they had about the same effect on indoor air quality as adding an air purifier to my bedroom (which runs 24/7), and filters are VERY AFFORDABLE. This is a must for allergy sufferers who don't have filtered air conditioning.
