I bought this cage as an extra cage to give my Syrian hamster more space. Giving Syrian hamsters space is extremely important, especially when you find that they are not very active (although they are nocturnal animals that work the night shift. I found the OVO activity tubes to be the perfect addition to combine two habitats into one (I had to purchase an additional OVO tee to connect the habitrail habitat to the activity tubes). I connected the hoses to the right side of the Habitat and used the clamps that came with it to connect to my original OVO Habitat. So note that you MUST purchase an additional tee (less than 5.00) when purchasing these hoses. The Habitrail habitat features many special extras, including a running wheel, upper attic, feeding bowl, and water tube. The ladder can be difficult to assemble if it is not level and locked into place. It's wrong if you can't hear it: the "click" of the attic clasp. The loft itself sits on the outer rails and it's important to align them evenly to increase strength. The bike can also be easily mounted using the click fastener on the back. The habitat itself isn't very big, so I would recommend using and buying additional pipes or attaching it to a previous habitat to gain more space. Assembly was very easy as most of it was already assembled upon delivery. You need to connect the door, wheel, ladder, attic, and the two outer rings (the rings need to be perfectly aligned to connect them, so if you're having trouble, try turning the rings a bit and then close you will hear a loud click when it is properly attached). Many people have indicated that they did not see the door in the photo provided, the door is in the center of the front, not down at the bottom of the living space, more like halfway up. So if your hamster doesn't like getting your hands on it I wouldn't recommend it. Our hamster is very restless and doesn't like being held by previous owners but luckily our second home has a door downstairs that he can climb in and out of to hit his exercise ball.
