Big learning curve, but worth it.

These irons are designed for professional use, meaning they are aimed from the person holding them to the person sitting in front of them. It's hard to explain without seeing it, but while flipping the iron over for use on your own hair is no big deal with a traditional spring iron, a Marseiller requires you to hold the iron all the way back compared to its construction . There are many other things that make Marcel difficult to use, but that means it's even harder to use on yourself than someone else. So when people complain about difficulties, they don't exaggerate. When I first started using it I was pretty good at figuring out how to use it, but it took me at least a week of daily use to become comfortable enough with it. I've been using it for several months now. For a while I thought it was a good iron, but I really didn't know if it was any better than a standard iron. Until I forgot on a trip and had to borrow an old iron from a friend. The difference is huge. First, the spring iron actually does a lot of work once you get used to the Marseille. Second, the control and quality of the curls is much better with this straightener. It's definitely worth the cost. If you don't curl your hair often or find it uncomfortable to use a regular flat iron, a Marseille may not be worth it. But if you curl your hair regularly and have good coordination and dexterity, this is a great straightener.
