Once this item is hot and ready for use it should not be placed on the countertop. The purple paint comes off and stains the countertop! I'm not exaggerating! It was left on the counter (less than 5 minutes had passed) and the bathroom counter was constantly dirty! Now when I use it I put a rag under it and of course it gets the rag dirty, but it's better than the countertop. I just try to use the same dirty rag every morning when I do my hair. It's really sad because the product works well but who wants a purple painted bathroom countertop!
