Bought as a gift for a woman who doesn't like the taste of city water (purified, tested city water that comes from Lake Michigan, not wells). The problem was that she didn't like straws and everyone else filtered the water as soon as it came out of the bottle. We have a Britta at home and it works the same way - filters the water on the way to the bottle and then filters the water without suction. In addition, the filter works surprisingly fast; Washing at full speed is too fast, but it almost keeps up with the water fountain. As for taste, she says it's much better than city water.
