Review on πŸš— XTOOL D8BT Car Diagnostic Scan Tool: Advanced Features, ECU Coding, Bi-Directional Control, Key Programming, and more! by James Hess

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Just received D8BT. My first impressions.

This is my fourth and most advanced OBD2 scanner. This product feels solid and its carrying case is also of good quality. The scanner is a bit heavier than I expected, which is probably due to the larger battery. Getting started and activating was easy, basically just an email address and language selection. Speaking of language, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the instruction manual. It doesn't show you how to fix cars, but it gives a lot of details about the device itself, and the English is pretty decent for a Chinese product. Contrary to another review I saw, I was able to use and play with different menus without a Bluetooth VCI connection. It even has a "demo" mode so you can try out more menus without having to connect to a real vehicle. No other OBD2 device I know of in this price range would give you more without the actual connection. I've also connected to two Wi-Fi networks with no issues. I surfed the internet, adjusted my settings and downloaded updates. Everything worked great. After about 2-3 hours of exploring, the only crash I encountered was in "demo" mode when the device was waiting for a connection that didn't seem to exist. At this point I didn't have an exit or cancel, so I used the normal Android method of disabling the app. I can't wait to start working on real cars and trucks. I considered several other brands for my next instrument but at this price point I found it hard to beat the D8BT. Now let's go into the real world to see how it will work, but I have a good feeling.

Pros
  • I hold my fists
Cons
  • Too long to wait
