I had a Linksys LRT224 VPN router from early 2014 to 12/23/2018. The router stopped working on 12/23/2018. I have had great service over these four years and will be purchasing another Linksys LRT224 VPN router due to ship on December 29th 2018 with a four year protection plan. With optional Linksys LRT224 VPN router for backup. I just installed a new router and later discovered that the power supply had burned out. I used a new Linksys power supply and my exit router is working great, and I also have additional power supplies that work with both my new and old Linksys LRT224 VPN routers. The new Linksys LRT224 VPN router is used as a backup. I have an Arris SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem with Comcast internet service. I'm using an Arris SB8200 dual WAN-out to dual-in WAN Linksys LRT224 cable modem. Comcast only offers DOCSIS 3.0 services in this area. My network is a peer-to-peer LAN, but it will get a WINS server soon. Access PPTP VPN via LAN IP addresses All IP addresses are listed for accessing information. With a WINS server, I see server symbol names instead of IP addresses. A WINS server is not required for VPN connections between gateways. Improvements needed for IPV6. When I use PPTP VPN from my laptop to my VPN server and to my other home servers, IPv6 packets are not passed through the VPN tunnel, only IPv4 packets. Only IPv4 IP addresses can be used to create a VPN tunnel with PPTP or gateway-to-gateway networks. My buddies tell me that Gateway to Gateway VPN is leaking IPV6 packets. The next generation of Linksys LRT224 VPN routers should have 10 Gigabit Ethernet WAN and LAN ports and a USB 3.2 WAN port for 5G. It should be possible to create VPNs with IPv6 addresses and forward IPv6 packets. NAT throughput and IPV6 throughput should be 10 gigabits upstream and 10 gigabits downstream. The VPN gateway bandwidth for the gateway must be 2 gigabits upstream and 2 gigabits downstream. The VPN PPTP throughput is said to be 200 megabits upstream and 200 megabits downstream. Comcast and other cable companies will soon compete for customers with carriers using 5G like AT&T, Sprint and Verizon for internet service. Cable companies and landline telephony companies will have no choice but to use FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and 5G technologies instead of DOCSIS 4.0. Comcast and other cable and landline phone companies may offer rebates if the cable and landline phone companies can place 5G transceivers on customers' rooftops that connect to the cable and landline phone companies' media converters. With the advent of 5G, the distinction between cable and landline providers will become very blurred.
