Knitting is more than beautiful pictures and beautiful colors. Any knitter who's gone beyond scarves, shawls, and socks (and sometimes even socks) knows that making beautiful, wearable pieces, especially in the lace area, takes a lot of learning through experimentation and discovering little techniques. , braids, double knitting and colored knitting. I booked a knitting workshop hoping to discover advanced techniques that I either didn't understand myself or that weren't covered in other specific books on the techniques listed. The book disappointed me to say the least. Nothing mind blowing here and the detailed techniques described are much more detailed in books on the specific techniques mentioned. However, how does one navigate to a resource that covers several different techniques for the beginner or intermediate knitter who doesn't have an extensive library? I think this book could be a wonderful resource in one volume. Techniques covered include: Yarn Replacements, and not just by weight, but a good description of yarn changes in cables and lace patterns. That alone might convince me to keep the book. Reading charts and analyzing them for pattern and size changes and yarn changes are also detailed. I haven't seen them covered in such detail in other books. The different types of knitting are then described, including the magic set and the magic loop. Cable knitting is covered, including bug fixes and the infamous loose stitch at the end of the cable. Lace knitting and correcting lace mistakes are also covered. However, if you have other books on braids or lace, you can find this information and more in technical books. Fair Isle knitting is covered, along with a dash of color theory and shaping and matching. There are many, many great Fair Isle and Farbstrick resources in terms of books and I think this is the book's weakest section. This fear technique, where Fair Isle designs can be knit entirely in the round and then sewn and cut out, is a valuable resource as it is a scary technique and although it has been described elsewhere I have never dared to try it. The shaping and fit are described in great detail, but the quick and dirty section, and for the knitter who does not own one of the many books on knit design, this section is also valuable. Different types of colored knitting are considered, including mosaic and stripes, as well as double-sided double knitting. Knit twists and shortened rows are also considered, as are options for the Kitchener graft. I thought the Kitchener stitch variations were masterful. Seamless, ascending and descending techniques are conspicuous by their absence. The templates and designs that illustrate all of these techniques without exception are bright, eye-catching and the perfect mix of challenge and skill development. All in all a great one stop shopping book with lots of tricky techniques for knitters progressing from intermediate to intermediate knitting. Also great for one stop shopping for various techniques. A knitter who is still learning favorite techniques can find what they like here and purchase additional technique books for favorite techniques such as lace, braids or advanced color work if needed. A good book, a solid book, a book with some little trick surprises. methods, but most of the information is contained elsewhere. Experienced knitters with an already extensive library may wish to review the book before purchasing to see whether it contains enough of the new relationship to the old to make it worth buying. However, for a person who is just starting out with advanced knitting mechanics and techniques, this book will be invaluable. I think it could be a collection of previous articles and while valuable, the book reads more like a collection of articles than a coherent work.
