I've been using this in various configurations for a few weeks now and it's a clear winner when I lay the mat broadly under the first 3 or 4 inches of litter. Crate. This way, when our cat comes out of the litter box, no matter which way he goes, the litter will be scraped off his feet. We mopped the floor next to the drawer every other day and emptied it once a week when we change the filling. There is a little more space under the trash can for the cat to walk on. WE catch more than 95% of the waste when it leaves the litter box. Great product and my 7 year old can do his voiding as part of his duties. SUPER EASY!
