The best solution for PS3/Harmony owners

This is the device that remote PS3 and Harmony users have been waiting for. It's very responsive and has all the functionality of a Sony PS3 remote (at least on my Harmony One. This may vary depending on the Harmony version and the number of buttons). A couple of reservations buyers might have with this device is the price, and chances are they already have some sort of PS3 control solution. โ‚ฌ60 seems a bit high at first. The PlayStation 3 Blu Wave Remote and the Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote are significantly smaller than this device. However, both have some disadvantages. I have both of the above remotes. Nyko is a decent solution for universal remote owners, as you can control your PS3 with any IR remote (Harmony remotes make this particularly easy, as Logitech has a Nyko device available for programming with Harmony software). The problems with Blu-Wave are that you can't turn on the PS3 with the remote control, it uses one of your PS3's USB ports and it can also be a bit glitchy. It often stops responding at all and I have to unplug and plug the USB receiver back in before it works again. The Sony remote works well and the nice thing is that you don't need a direct connection between the remote and the PS3 as it connects via bluetooth. However, for all of us who have universal remotes, you must have both the universal remote and the Sony remote at hand. About one unit, since you can't have multiple remotes, the $60 is well spent. Other options I've seen that allow PS3 power control with Harmony remotes are IR2BTci and PS3IR-Pro. These devices are more suitable for comparison with the Logitech Harmony adapter as they share similar characteristics. I haven't tried any of these devices personally, so I can't comment on how well they work. However, I can say that they are significantly more expensive than $60 if you can even buy them from a reputable seller (at the time of writing the IR2BTci is $150 and the PS3IR-Pro is $100) . Also, aesthetically they don't match the Logitech adapter. Logitech's device has a small form factor and also matches the PS3's finish perfectly, while other devices feel a bit unsightly and a bit chunkier. And in terms of performance, while I can't say how the others fare, I also can't imagine they could do much better than this Logitech adapter (which seems pretty much flawless in terms of performance). If you're tired of Nyko Blu-Wave being unstable or have multiple remotes (or just have your first PS3 remote and already own or plan to own a Harmony remote), I really can't imagine the buyer having any regrets if he spends $60 on it because it's a really great device.
