I love these ice cube trays. The trays have an internal metal frame which is amazing. I had no idea what a difference that metal frame would make. This allows for almost instant and very easy removal of ice from the tray without having to turn the tray upside down, go under water or bang the counter. Just eject the dice instantly by pinching the bottom under the dice with your fingers and holding the top frame with your thumbs. Pop goes to the cube! In addition, this metal frame makes it very easy to carry a full bowl of water into the freezer. I love that much maligned cover too, LOL! What the hell? It's clearly not attached in the photos, so I don't know why so many people are surprised by this (and didn't they read the reviews before buying it?), but it sits nicely on the tray and sits securely on the tray aforementioned silicone-coated metal frame. This lid makes the trays much less leak proof when carrying the trays full of water, ice is less likely to take on odors or flavors and allows for easy freezer stacking. I personally like the lids and don't want them fitted for the simple reason that water expands when it freezes, so loose lids allow for expansion without the risk of the bowls breaking. The third thing I love about these trays is that I didn't realize until I started using them that they were very slightly raised at the top. So if I accidentally pour too much water in while they're on the counter (I use bottled water), the water just spills back into the tray rather than all over the counter. This raised lip around the top of the tray also keeps the lid in place.
