O-ring pockets are the storage method I've always used for cross stitches. I think they are the best solution for long-term storage of leftover diamond tips. I keep all my points for freehand projects and in case I run out of colors in a project. This has saved me more than once when the project I bought didn't have enough colors. Ring bags are an inexpensive and compact way to store this overflow.
