Review on Zoom 3095 Mini External Modem by Matt Travers

I just replaced my outdated iMac G5 with a new iMac 21.5 with Lion. I didn't realize at the time that Apple had done away with the internal modem, so with the new Mac I didn't have a fax anymore. Even though it's "old school", faxing is still useful and in some cases required or preferred for legal or other sensitive documents. I do both. So I needed a solution. (C'mon Apple! How much did the built-in modem save you?!) After some research I found the Zoom 3095 to be unremarkable and the specs said it would do everything I needed. The bonus was its portability and functionality for Apple products and (ugh) PC. So I ordered it. Delivery was great! It arrived the next day! Let me print it again - NEXT DAY! Installation was easy. Plug and play as advertised. However, the installation on the Mac was "different". Since Apple left the modem out of the iMAC, they also left out any useful information about setting up an external modem. It wasn't intuitive! An internet search led me to instructions on how to install the latest operating system (Lion). Pretty simple actually, which is how Apple does it. From the moment it was installed and configured it worked flawlessly. I would recommend this product to any Mac user who needs to add tethering and/or fax capabilities! If Apple turns the ball down, it's good to know that there are trusted add-ons like the Zoom 3095 to bridge the gap. Good product![.]
