Somehow I knew we couldn't be the only ones with a bed-peeing cat. Waterproof mattress protectors are all very fine, but I'd prefer just to wash the top layer of bedding after a wetting incident. Layers of 6mil poly under the bedspread were just plain annoying to deal with. I was very glad to find this product! I'm just surprised that this is the only manufacturer making these large enough for a bed.Quality: It's not especially stylish but not bad - a pleasant neutral color, looks like a normal blanket. A nice texture, not crinkly, easy to work with & fold. Looks well made.The Test: 1st thing upon arrival, tested it. I laid a corner of it over a sheet of paper and poured about a 1/2 cup of water on top (well more than a cat bladder holds!). Where the water hit, it soaked in, but most of it puddled on top. I left it sit there for about 2 hours, and then checked it. By then all of the water had soaked in. But the paper and the underside were completely dry. Success!The Bad: Then we tossed it in the wash before using. Our brand new washer's spin cycle was no match for the absorption power of this blanket! It was impossible to get it out of the washer with less than half of it soaked heavy with water. Try wringing out a full blanket by hand. It took 2.5 hours in the dryer!Right now it's spending its first day on the bed, and fortunately the bed-wetter doesn't strike too often, so it may be a while before a real-world test. I'm optimistic after my water test, though. Only time will tell if the waterproofing layer holds up after being kneaded by happy kitties.I gave it 3 stars because of the inconvenience of not being able to properly wring it out. I get that it's due to having a waterproof layer in the center, which is a feature.but it's also a bug. I'll try to figure out how to handle this issue better, and I may adjust my rating later.
