I have a pair of hydrometers but they are fragile and can break easily (I have) so I bought this one with color differentiation. The colors help a lot. I usually wear glasses. So when I check gravity on others, I have a hard time distinguishing DC values. This makes a quick reading easier as 0.990 and below are displayed in black on white. 0.990-1.000 are highlighted in blue. This is a color change on the glass so you can remember what each color represents. For example, 1060-1092 is highlighted in green to remind you that this range is used to adjust gravity before adding yeast and 1100-1130 is highlighted in blue to remind you that this range is for dessert wines . This is helpful for a beginner. If you're an old pro, I've bored you.
