gel works very well. I have thick long straight hair and it helps keep my hair from frizzing a bit and lasts all day when used with Free and Clear heavy hold hairspray. I really don't think the shampoo was made for thick hair and it's a little harder to wash out. It takes twice as much to get good lather, and even that takes some work, especially if you've used gel or hairspray. Air conditioning is fine. in general it is good for contact dermatitis problems. I have not had a rash or sores from contact dermatitis with other formulas since using this shampoo and other Free and Clear products. I wish shampoo was the best formula for thick hair.
