Review on πŸš— Auto-Vox M1 4.3'' TFT LCD Monitor Backup Camera Kit: Easy One-Wire Installation, IP 68 Waterproof Camera for Truck & Sedan by Adrian Garcia

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I have installed many of these kits and this is my new favorite!

This seems to be the fifth, maybe sixth, camera kit I've installed this year. I became the family "expert" so to speak, and word got around that I knew how to install them fairly well. I have installed them in my cars and my wife's cars (mine twice), my mother's car and two trailers for my uncle. This backup camera kit has many small features that impressed me compared to other kits I have used: β€’ Small port size. The jacks used by Auto-Vox are much smaller than the typical RCA jacks found on most camera kits. It is really practical when feeding the wire from the back of the car to the front. With the small connectors that Auto-Vox uses, you don't have to remove most fairings, rocker panels, etc. to route the wire. Everything is small enough to be hidden or slipped through small gaps without removing the internals. This saves a lot of time and a lot less chance of a cut clip or something like that breaking. β€’ The camera works very well. The camera is perhaps the most important part of these kits. If the camera is low quality, it won't look good even if you connect it to the best HD monitor in the world. The camera in this set has a wide field of view, colors are fairly accurate, and works in low light without the use of LEDs (which I think cause glare). β€’ The camera itself is quite small so it doesn't get in the way or behind the rear handle of my SUV. The bracket fits behind the license plate, I don't have to worry about the cops here in New Jersey where covering the license plate can get you pulled over. The camera is adjustable up/down so I can easily see curbs even though my SUV is quite high. β€’ The protection class IP68 is worth mentioning. Most kits are IP67 certified. Both are fairly well protected against dust (a "6" by IP), but a score of 8 is much better than a seven when it comes to water ingress. A real world rating of seven is essentially splashproof. Model 8 is actually waterproof and can be submerged in water. Not used to submerging my car in water this might seem like overkill, but where it matters most is at car washes. I've seen a lot of people with sweaty wet hoses, most of them from water from car washes. This IP68 camera should be able to handle it. I installed this kit on my Volvo XC90. When I bought the XC90 I knew it would need a rear camera. Having installed another auto vox kit in my newest car I decided to get this one and give it a try. Installation was easy thanks to the small connectors. Everything went pretty fast. Basically all I had to do was connect the reverse light circuit for power, mount the camera (using strong 3M tape so no drilling required), route the cable to the front of the car, then connect and install the monitor . Wherever you want. Finding the right return wire is probably the hardest part. Google can help here or find the access panel behind the taillights and see what color the wires for the reverse light are. On my car, I made the connection directly behind the lamp holders in the back of the cargo area. The kit includes "T-connectors" so no cutting, gluing, soldering, etc. is required. Simple enough that almost anyone can install this kit and no tools are required.
