I'm not the home assembler type. However, it only took half an hour, and everything was clear with the instructions. The instructions say you only need screwdrivers and I mention this because it applied to me. A note for those of you not assembling anything like in my case: look how the nuts need to be inserted into the hole. I say that because if you put a screw in, it won't go in. Also, nuts are difficult to remove if you make the mistake of screwing them up the wrong way. However, I have learned to get it wrong once. I simply persuaded him to do it and was able to do it a second time with no problem. Another thing, if you have a small child with big (tall) books, these won't work. However, I can fit some pretty decent books on the shelf and it definitely does the job. In terms of smell, I haven't had this problem with this shelf or with the Batman I bought for my son. This suggests that what happens to one doesn't always happen to the other! I definitely recommend this bookshelf. It has way more space than I expected which is a big plus! Both of my children have many books and figurines that can now be easily displayed.
